India condemns China's move to rename disputed locations in Arunachal Pradesh

China has attempted to rename locations in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, but India has responded angrily and stated that it "outright condemns" the plan.

The state has always been and will always be a "integral and inalienable part of India," according to Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the foreign ministry.

His remarks followed news reports claiming that China has changed the names of 11 locations along a contentious Himalayan border region in the state.

Beijing has yet to respond.

The Line of Actual Control, also known as LAC, is a disputed 3,440km (2,100 mile) long de facto boundary that connects China and India. The line may shift due to the presence of rivers, lakes, and snowcaps.

China still asserts its claim to the entirety of Arunachal Pradesh, referring to it as "South Tibet."

The most recent encounter between Indian and Chinese troops along the border in the town of Tawang occurred in December. The soldiers on either side, who represent two of the greatest militaries in the world, come face to face frequently.

Beijing has renamed locations in the state before, sparking irate responses from India each time.

On April 1, the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs said that it had "standardised several geographical names in southern Tibet," which sparked the most recent tense situation.

This encompassed a town adjacent to the state's capital Itanagar, as well as residential regions, rivers, and mountain summits.

Beijing cannot change the status of locations in the north-eastern state, according to India.

"China has attempted something similar before. We vehemently condemn this "According to Mr. Bagchi's remark.

"An essential and inalienable component of India is Arunachal Pradesh. Attempts to give fabricated names won't change this fact, "Added he.

Beijing made its initial attempt to rename six districts in Arunachal Pradesh in 2017, which was perceived as "retaliation" for the Dalai Lama's visit. In April of that year, the Tibetan spiritual leader had already made a trip there.

In December of last year, it published a second list, this one renaming 15 locations in the area. India expressed its strong opposition to the proposals.
